Plot

In the heart of 1943, amidst the fiery skies of Sicily, American bomber squadrons relentlessly pummel the enemy landscape, paving the way for the impending Allied invasion. Among these steel birds is the Lucky Lass, a formidable B-17 Flying Fortress. Its crew, a close-knit band of Irish-American soldiers, face a gut-wrenching loss when their commander falls in the line of duty. Stepping into this void is Lt. Wally McAlister, the former co-pilot, now thrust into the role of the commander. Alongside him, the unseasoned 2nd Lt. Mike Schmidt is brought in as the new co-pilot. Schmidt, a greenhorn amidst hardened warriors, inadvertently distances himself from the crew. His rookie mistakes on critical missions only amplify the chasm, breeding mistrust and resentment in the already tight-knit group. Based on true events, "Fortress" (2012) explores Schmidt's desperate struggle to regain the trust and respect of his crew. As they hurtle through the war-torn skies, it's a battle not just against the enemy, but also amongst themselves. Can Schmidt overcome his inexperience, conquer his personal demons, and steer the Lucky Lass and her crew back to safety? Or will the mounting pressures forge an insurmountable divide? This gripping tale of courage, camaraderie, and redemption promises to hold viewers on the edge of their seats.
