In the twilight years of the 19th century, we journey alongside the vagabond duo of Johnny Rutledge (William Holden) and "Professor" Mordecai Ford, the era's quintessential snake oil salesmen. They travel from town to town, with Johnny donning black-face to perform a captivating minstrel show, and the Professor using these distractions to execute their illicit trade.
