Edge of Doom (1950)

Nestled in the heart of a desolate neighborhood, St. Stephen's serves as a beacon for the destitute, a place where the impoverished souls seek solace. Martin Lynn Jr., a diligent and principled young man, finds himself torn between his deep-seated disdain for the church and his devotion to his recently deceased mother, a devout parishioner of St. Stephen's. Struggling to give his mother the grand farewell he believes she deserves, Martin's pleas for financial support are met with apathetic refusals from the church, echoing the rejection faced by his father years ago when he sought burial after suicide. In a maelstrom of rage and desperation, Martin lashes out, brutally ending the life of the senior parish priest, Father Kirkman, who confessed his growing disconnect from his flock.
