Plot

From the humble fields of the farm to the dusty diamond of minor league baseball, Jack "Deuce" Cooper, a greenhorn pitcher, is drafted into the Santa Rosa Rockets. Despite his lack of professional experience, Deuce's raw talent and killer curve ball earn him a spot in the team. Yet, Deuce struggles with the pressure of the game, his curve ball often proving to be his downfall. In a twist of fate, the Rockets acquire a new team mascot - a lively chimpanzee named Ed Sullivan, purchased by the team owner's son, Kirby. The team's cunning coach, Chubb, orchestrates a roommate arrangement between Deuce and Ed, an overgrown child at heart, resulting in a whirlwind of comedic misadventures. Ed's love for baseball is matched only by his surprising skill, boasting a rocket arm that rivals Deuce's. Recognizing the chimp's potential, Chubb positions Ed at third base, sparking a newfound energy in the team's quest for the pennant. However, when a crisis befalls Ed, Deuce must make a choice that could risk his own major league dreams. Amidst the chaos, a charming subplot unfolds as Deuce begins a romance with his neighbor, Lydia, a single mother with a perceptive young daughter, Lizzie. Together with Ed, they seem to understand Deuce's heart better than he does himself. In this heartwarming tale, the stakes are high, the laughs are plentiful, and the bonds of friendship are tested on and off the baseball field.
