Bloodsport (1988)

The Kumite is a martial arts competition so elite that only the best fighters are even aware of its existence. Part of that is to protect the competition from liability issues, as serious injury and death are common within the ring. Frank Dux has spent almost his whole adult life training for the Kumite and finally has the opportunity to go, but his military superiors tell them that's he not allowed. Frank slips away from their surveillance and absconds to Hong Kong. Winning the Kumite is a difficult challenge in its own right, but Frank will need to deal with his military handlers as well.
