Daybreak (1993)

In a hauntingly near future, New York City has fallen under the iron fist of a totalitarian government, employing draconian measures to control the AIDS epidemic. Citizens diagnosed HIV positive bear the mark of their affliction—a chilling 'P' tattooed on their chests—and are shipped off into a chilling quarantine. Young and fearless, Blue and her closest companion Laurie find themselves on the precipice of this grim reality when they seek assistance at a government clinic. They are warned against entering by a street-smart lad named Willie, but it's only when they witness the horrifying mistreatment of an elderly woman inside the clinic that they fully grasp the perilous situation. As they flee the clinic, pursued by heartless security, they are swept into the protective arms of Willie's brother, Torch. Torch, a beacon of hope amidst the despair, leads an underground resistance movement, sheltering those like Blue and Laurie from the government's twisted quarantine—nothing more than a death sentence under the guise of protection. Drawn to his courage, Blue finds herself falling for Torch and becomes a part of the uprising. But when Torch is captured and diagnosed as HIV positive, he is thrust into the very quarantine he fought against. Now, Blue must navigate the treacherous maze of corruption and tyranny to reunite with Torch, fighting not just for their love, but for the glimmer of humanity still flickering in their dystopian world.
