Plot

Set against the vibrant backdrop of San Francisco, the story unfolds around Frank Bigelow, a small-town accountant who decides to ditch his mundane life for a week of fun and frolic. Engaged to his charming assistant, Paula Gibson, Frank checks into the illustrious St. Francis Hotel, his heart set on a holiday before embracing the tranquility of married life. His vacation takes an unexpected turn when he finds himself amidst a boisterous party of salesmen, leading him to a jive bar where a mysterious encounter awaits him. A stranger switches drinks with him, setting the stage for a chilling twist. The next morning, Frank awakens with more than a hangover; he is plagued by an unshakeable illness that sends him straight to the hospital. The diagnosis is grim: he's been poisoned with a rare "luminous toxin," a death sentence with no known cure. Frank is left with, at most, a week to live. As he grapples with his fatal prognosis, Frank learns of a man from Los Angeles who had been desperately trying to contact him. Intriguingly, this man committed suicide by leaping off his high-rise balcony shortly after trying to reach out. This information catapults Frank into a frantic race against time, a desperate odyssey to find the connection between his poisoning and this mysterious man's suicide. Plunged into a world of shadowy characters and cryptic clues, Frank embarks on a quest to uncover the truth behind his impending doom. With each tick of the clock, the question looms larger: Why would anyone want him dead? As the days count down, Frank is determined to solve the mystery of his own murder before the poison claims his life. D.O.A. is a riveting journey of suspense and intrigue, a tale of a man caught in a deadly game with time running out.
