Plot

Emily Wang, a London-based VJ with a dash of fleeting fame, finds herself rising to dubious prominence as the girlfriend and de facto manager of burgeoning rock star, Lee Hauser. Their passionate relationship is shrouded in controversy and marred by Lee's escalating drug addiction, a vice many believe to be Emily's doing. Tragedy strikes when Lee succumbs to a fatal heroin overdose, leaving Emily to face drug possession charges that land her in prison for half a year. In the aftermath of this tumultuous chapter, Emily learns that their adolescent son, Jay, has been left in the care of Lee's aging parents, Albrecht and Rosemary Hauser, in Vancouver. Albrecht, expressing concern for Jay's future, urges Emily to abstain from visiting their son for at least two years, believing that it would provide Jay with a chance at a normal life. Emily, conscious of her inability to care for Jay, reluctantly agrees. To reclaim her life, Emily retreats to her former haven, Paris, where she grapples with her own demons while trying to carve out a living largely within the confines of the rock music scene. Meanwhile, Rosemary feeds Jay's perception of his mother with disdain, creating a rift between mother and son. Caught in this familial crossfire is Albrecht, who desires for Jay to reconnect with his mother, primarily due to the reality that he and Rosemary won't be around to guide Jay to adulthood. Emily's journey is a precarious balance of fighting her addiction, rebuilding her tarnished reputation, and yearning to regain custody of her son. Her path to redemption is steep and fraught with setbacks, but with unexpected support from her father-in-law, she discovers a reservoir of strength to reconstruct her life. Amid the echoes of her past and the challenges of her present, Emily's story is a poignant testament to resilience, redemption, and the enduring power of familial bonds.
