In the midst of penning her fourth novel in the renowned romance anthology series around the characters Desmond Ranes and Catarina, Izzi Simmons finds herself at odds with her best friend and editor, Mila. The draft, already overdue, is deemed unsatisfactory by Mila, who criticizes Izzi's portrayal of the flawless Desmond as unrealistic, mirroring Izzi's own quixotic quest for love. With the final deadline ominously looming on Christmas Eve, Izzi negotiates a compromise to revise her story from the Antler Lodge in Silver Springs, her cherished Yuletide sanctuary since her parents moved to Florida. The owner, Bob, a fellow Christmas traditionalist, has recently sold the lodge, making this her final winter at the idyllic locale. This fact is the only reason Mila permits Izzi's working holiday. Once there, Izzi is taken aback to discover the new proprietor is Bob's son, Matt, a widower who has returned from Seattle with his young daughter, Kacey, to reconnect with his roots. Izzi is struck by Matt's uncanny resemblance to her novel's Desmond, as depicted in her book covers. Yet, Matt's plans to modernize the lodge and his human flaws quickly shatter Izzi's illusion of him as her real-life Desmond. As Matt and Izzi's paths intertwine, Izzi begins to realize that Matt's imperfections could be the key to a more authentic Desmond, while Matt contemplates if Izzi's arrival signifies his readiness to rekindle romance. However, their evolving relationship might be thwarted by Matt's childhood friend, Jennifer, who secretly harbors feelings for him. With Christmas swiftly approaching, will Izzi find her real-life Desmond, or will she discover something even more profound?
