Cheryl Jenkins, an astrophysicist turned Deputy Director at the Federal Science Association in Washington DC, finds herself entrenched in administrative work, far removed from her passion for exploring the cosmos. Five years into a job she only accepted as a stopgap, she yearns for her chosen field of Astronomy and the life she could have led. As she journeys home to Wellsboro for the Christmas holidays, her mind wanders through the maze of 'what ifs' from that life-altering week half a decade ago. Upon arrival, the annual Christmas Carnival spins the town into festive euphoria. Drawn to a solitary carousel, Cheryl takes a whimsical ride, unknowingly stepping into a magical time warp. Suddenly, she is catapulted back five years, at the cusp of that fateful week. With the gift of foresight, she seizes the opportunity to alter her past, hoping to reshape her present. She attempts to repair the wreckage of a single date with her high school crush, Terrence Fletcher, now the town's mayor. She contemplates guiding her younger sister, Trish, away from the dream of opening a restaurant, a decision Cheryl had always considered a misstep. Most crucially, she plans to dodge the encounter with her current boss, Dr. Phillips, to avoid knowledge of the Association job. Simultaneously, Cheryl yearns to soak in the moments she can't modify in the present. She cherishes her time with her late mentor, Miss Nelson, her high school science teacher whose sudden demise left a void. This means crossing paths with her former adversary, George Campbell, who now shares the science department with Miss Nelson. As Cheryl navigates this poignant journey to alter her past, she may discover that her perceptions are not as clear as she thought. Armed with a second chance, she must unravel the realities of love, dreams, and career paths before she is returned to her Christmas present, forever changed by her magical carousel ride.
