Plot

Set against the turbulent backdrop of pre-World War II Berlin, Charlotte is a visually stunning animated drama that unfolds the riveting tale of Charlotte Salomon, a prodigiously talented German-Jewish painter. As she navigates the throes of her early years, her imagination is as fierce as her passion for art. Reveling in the applause of her first love, her determination to become an artist is only fortified. However, the world she knows is rapidly and alarmingly morphing, throwing her dreams off course. When the menacing shadow of anti-Semitic laws gives rise to violent carnage, Charlotte finds refuge in the serene landscapes of the South of France. Amidst the tranquility, her artistic spirit is rekindled, and a new love finds its way into her life. But her creative resurgence is abruptly disrupted, not by external chaos this time, but an internal family catastrophe that unveils a deeper, darker secret. In the face of this revelation, Charlotte believes she can only be saved by an act of extraordinary courage. She embarks on an epic journey, not through foreign lands, but through the canvas of her life, painting her own story with strokes as bold and dynamic as her spirit. This is Charlotte, a visual symphony of resilience, love, and art in a world on the brink of war.
