Blessed Event (1932)

Al Roberts, a sharp-tongued gossip columnist for the Daily Express, is notorious for his unflinching exposés, as long as he receives the glory. His words wield power, but this power plunges him into a perilous situation with a menacing hoodlum named Goebel. Goebel dispatches his henchman, Frankie, to intimidate Al, but our cunning columnist has an ace up his sleeve - Frankie's confession on audio cylinders. This twist transforms Frankie from a threat to an unwitting ally and source of insider information. Among the many targets of Al's scathing commentary is the popular crooner, Bunny Harmon, who Al despises with a passion. However, his harshest attack is directed at Dorothy and her 'blessed event'. As the consequences of his words unravel, Al finds remorse for shattering Dorothy's life. But remorse takes a backseat when the man in Dorothy's life threatens to silence Al's gossip column - and perhaps Al himself - forever. In the cutthroat world of tabloid journalism, Al must navigate danger and guilt, as his stories spiral out of control.
