BLAME! (2017)

In an era far flung into the future, civilization has evolved into its ultimate Net-based manifestation, a complex multi-tiered city that ceaselessly replicates itself in every direction, no longer under the control of mankind. This chaotic expansion was triggered by an ancient "infection" that sent the automated systems into a relentless spiral of disorder. The city, now a colossal maze, is governed by the ruthless defense mechanism known as the Safeguard, which has declared humanity as "illegal residents," hunting them down to the brink of extinction. Nestled within a tiny nook of this dystopian labyrinth is a community of survivors, the Electro-Fishers, who are locked in a desperate struggle for existence, caught between the terrifying Safeguard and the ever-shrinking reserves of food. Amidst this bleak reality, a brave girl, Zuru, embarks on a perilous journey to seek sustenance for her village. Her mission, however, takes a catastrophic turn when an observation tower detects her presence and unleashes a pack of Safeguard to annihilate the perceived threat. As the situation spirals towards inevitable doom, with her allies fallen and all escape paths sealed, salvation arrives in an unexpected form – Kiri the Wanderer. A solitary figure shrouded in enigma, Kiri is in pursuit of the Net Terminal Genes, humanity's last hope. These elusive genes hold the power to regain control over the city and restore order to their world. As the fate of the Electro-Fishers and the future of mankind hang in the balance, Kiri could be the key to their survival, turning a tale of despair into a beacon of hope.
