Plot

In the heart of Britain, a thrilling spectacle unfolds under the guise of The Great Rivers Circus. Monica Rivers, the enigmatic ringmaster, is the face and spirit of the show despite only being a co-owner. Her business partner, the mysterious Albert Dorando, shares the circus ownership, a secret only known to the two of them. Following the death of her performer husband, Monica's icy demeanor views tragedy as opportunity, leveraging the public's morbid curiosity to boost box office receipts. When a marquee performer meets an untimely on-stage death, Monica swiftly replaces the act with the daring and enigmatic Frank Hawkins, who arrives from nowhere yet soon commands the spotlight with his death-defying stunts. However, as another performer falls victim to an obvious murder, whispers of foul play start to circulate, and the once captivating circus begins to resemble a stage of horrors. The performers are thrown into a state of panic, with many pointing fingers towards Monica, who stands to gain the most from the tragedies. As the body count rises, Scotland Yard steps in, with Superintendent Brooks vowing to stay with the circus until the mystery is resolved. Amidst the chaos, Monica's life becomes further complicated by the return of her rebellious daughter, Angela, expelled from school for her incorrigibility. Forced to bring her into the circus life, Monica pairs her with knife-thrower Gustavo, adding another layer of intrigue to the unfolding drama. Meanwhile, Monica incites the jealousy of her previous lover, Durando, as she embarks on a passionate affair with the charismatic Frank. When Durando is found lifeless, the performers' suspicions towards Monica intensify, especially from Matilda, whose eyes are set on the muscular Frank. As the curtains lift each night, the performers are left wondering who will be next, while Monica must navigate her cutthroat instincts for the circus business, her budding romance, and her newfound maternal responsibilities amidst the growing terror. Will this ringmaster be able to maintain her icy control, or will the circus descend into utter chaos? Dive into this intriguing tale of suspense, passion, and circus spectacle in Berserk, where every act may be the performer's last.
