A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014)

Private investigator Matt Scudder was once a promising cop, but he's since been worn down by the ravages of time. When a notorious drug dealer asks Scudder to investigate the murder of his wife, Scudder initially refuses. When the drug dealer elaborates on the gruesomeness of her death, the PI relents. The case turns out to be much larger than Scudder could have ever expected. The murder he's investigating is just one in a string of murders targeting the wives of drug dealers. The stakes are suddenly much more immediate when Scudder manages to connect the recent kidnapping of a 14-year old girl to the pattern.
