Battle Beyond the Stars (1980)

In the far reaches of the cosmos, on the tranquil planet of Akir, live peaceful farmers known as the Akira. Their serenity is shattered when the merciless tyrant Sador, leading a grotesque army of Malmori mutants, threatens to annihilate them with his Stellar Converter weapon, promising to return and reap their harvest of destruction. The only hope for the Akira lies in the counsel of the aging warrior Zed, who proposes a daring plan: hire a band of mercenaries to stand against Sador's impending doom. Offering his spaceship, he charges the young, brave Shad with the mission to assemble this unlikely army, promising nothing more than food and shelter as their reward. Guided by the spaceship's sentient computer Nell, Shad embarks on a galactic quest, his first encounter being with the enigmatic Dr. Hephaestus and his captivating daughter, Nanelia. While failing to secure weaponry from them, he gains a valuable ally in Nanelia and the promise of armaments from an earthling known as the Space Cowboy, who'd initially intended them for a planet already devastated by Sador. As Shad's mission continues, he gathers a diverse and unique group of mercenaries. Nestor, a quintet of clones who share a collective consciousness, join the cause, followed by the solitary yet affluent assassin Gelt, who seeks refuge rather than payment. The audacious Valkyrie warrior, Saint-Exmin, driven by her thirst for combat, and Cayman, a reptilian rogue with a personal vendetta against Sador, bolster the ranks of this eclectic band of defenders. As Sador and his monstrous armada return to lay claim to Akir, Shad and his newfound allies prepare for the ultimate showdown. The stage is set for a thrilling space saga where outcasts and warriors unite to defend the peaceful. The battle beyond the stars is about to begin, but the question remains - who will emerge victorious?
