Plot

Set against the austere backdrop of 1950s London, Asylum tells the tumultuous tale of Max Raphael, a diligent psychiatrist on the precipice of his career, newly appointed as the superintendent of an asylum in the city's outskirts. Consumed by his ambition, Max unwittingly neglects his wife Stella and their son Charlie, leaving them yearning for connection amidst the asylum's chilling isolation. In the heart of this desolation, Stella's life takes a dramatic turn when Charlie befriends Edgar Stark, a charismatic inmate and gifted sculptor. Edgar, imprisoned for the jealous murder and disfigurement of his wife, is under the watchful eye of Dr. Peter Cleave, an ambitious psychiatrist harbouring aspirations for Max's position. As the bleak afternoons drift by, the ignored and passion-starved Stella finds herself drawn into a heated, clandestine affair with Edgar, under the very noses of the asylum's staff. The affair, as intense as it is illicit, spirals out of control when Edgar escapes, and their secret passion is thrust into the harsh light of discovery. Caught in the crossroads of a devastating dilemma, Stella must grapple with an impossible choice between the safety of her family and the reckless allure of her wild passion for Edgar. Asylum is a riveting exploration of love, lust, and the consequences of the choices that come to define us.
