Plot
As dawn breaks on April 9th, 1940, the calm of Denmark is shattered. The formidable German army has breached the border, thrusting the nation into a war against Europe's mightiest force. The story unfolds in Southern Jutland, where the Danish defense, composed of bicycle and motorcycle companies, are summoned to the frontlines. These brave men, ill-equipped yet undeterred, are tasked with an impossible mission - to halt the advancing German forces until Danish reinforcements can be mobilized.
At the heart of this historic struggle is second lieutenant Sand (Pilou Asbæk), leading his bicycle company into a confrontation of epic proportions. They are the first Danish soldiers to engage the enemy, their courage and determination tested in the face of overwhelming odds.
"April 9th" is a compelling cinematic testament to these unsung heroes, underscoring a pivotal moment in Danish history when ordinary men were called upon to perform extraordinary acts of valor. Based on real events, this gripping tale of resilience and sacrifice provides a stirring tribute to those whose defiance on that fateful day helped shape the destiny of their nation.
