Plot

In Hiroshi Teshigahara's cinematic journey, "Antonio Gaudí" (1984), the lens of his camera guides us through a labyrinth of architectural wonders, sculpted by the renowned Catalan architect, ceramist, and sculptor, Antonio Gaudí (1852 - 1926). Teshigahara weaves a tantalizing visual narrative, hinting at the profound influence that Romanesque churches, monasteries, and the rugged beauty of Montserrat, nestled near Barcelona, had on Gaudí's work. Every contour in Gaudí's work is a sinuous curve, and each surface is a symphony of textures, masterfully captured by Teshigahara's lens. With sparse narration, the film embarks on a visual tour through the eclectic Casa Vicens, the industrious Güell's architectural projects, including the ethereal Crypt of the Colònia Güell and the mesmerizing Park Güell, the whimsical Casa Batlló, and the iconic Casa Milà. Our journey concludes at the heart of Barcelona, with the grand and still unfinished masterpiece - the Templo de La Sagrada Familia. Through Teshigahara's lens, we not only observe Gaudí's work but also feel its rhythm, pulsating with the essence of Gaudí's creative spirit. This film is a stirring exploration of the symbiotic relationship between art, architecture, and nature, etched in the stone and soul of Catalonia.
