The Lake House (2006)

When Kate moves out of the lake house where she has been living, she leaves the new tenant a note in the mailbox. Alex, living in the lake house, finds the note, but he is puzzled as to why it makes reference to things that aren't there, such as a box in the attic and paw prints. Kate and Alex strike up a correspondence, but they discover that Kate is actually living two years in the future. They find a way to communicate across the years, but what they truly want is to find a way to be together.
