Plot

Emerging from the shadowy confines of a decade-long imprisonment, a man with a haunted past and a monstrous craving for violence reenters society. His freedom, however, brings no respite; instead, it awakens an insatiable urge to kill, a compulsion irresistible as it is horrifying. His first attempt at quenching this thirst, however, against an unsuspecting cab driver, ends in failure, pushing him into the desolate embrace of the rural Austrian countryside. Shrouded in isolation, he stumbles upon a secluded home, a world untouched by the darkness he carries within him. In this sanctuary lives a young woman, her ailing mother, and her disabled brother. But this haven soon becomes their hell as the man, a chilling embodiment of real-life murderer Werner Kniesek, begins to unleash a torrent of sadistic pleasure upon them, turning their lives into a twisted game of torment and terror. As he holds them captive, his mind wanders to the shadows of his own past, charting a troubled childhood marred by the abuse of his mother and grandmother. This psychological labyrinth, paired with his present descent into madness, is masterfully captured through the lens of Zbig Rybczynski and brought to life by the haunting score of Klaus Schultz. "Angst" is a chilling journey into the depths of human depravity, where the boundaries of fear are pushed, and survival becomes a desperate battle against a lurking evil. This is not just a movie; it is a visceral experience that will leave you questioning the very nature of humanity.
