Amarkalam (1999)

In the gritty underbelly of the city, Vasu (Ajith), a rough-and-tumble rogue, makes a living through petty fights and spends his nights sleeping in a cinema theater owned by Vinu Chakravarty. His life takes a drastic turn when he crosses paths with Mohana (Shalini), a music student and the daughter of the Police Commissioner, over a lost film reel. This chance encounter sparks an escalating chain of events, drawing Vasu into the crosshairs of an ex-mafia Don, Tulsi Das (Raghuvaran). Tulsi, harboring an old grudge against the Police Commissioner, manipulates Vasu into kidnapping Mohana, intending to tarnish the family's honor. But things go awry when Mohana, charmed by Vasu's singing, falls in love with her captor.
