In the idyllic days of their childhood, Diana, Neville, and David formed an inseparable trio, with Diana secretly nurturing a deep affection for Neville. However, Neville's father, Morton, harbored a strong disdain for any Merrick, including Diana. With Neville devoid of any fortune, Morton dispatched him to Egypt to earn his keep, simultaneously dissuading him from uniting with Diana in marriage. Patiently, Diana awaited two long years before surrendering her heart to David, a man whom Jeffry, a lifelong alcoholic, considered to be the epitome of greatness. A dramatic turn of events in Paris leads to David's tragic demise, a result of his desperate leap to evade the pursuing police. For Jeffry's sake, Diana veils the true circumstances of David's death. In the aftermath, Jeffry severs all ties with Diana, leaving her isolated. Neville, despite his enduring love for Diana, does not see her return to England for a span of seven years. When she finally does, it's merely three days before Neville is set to wed Constance, adding another twist to this emotional tapestry.
