Plot

In the shadowy underbelly of Greenwich Village, mystery writer Jeff Troy and his new bride Nancy settle into their gloomy basement apartment, a peculiar dwelling that whispers stories of its infamous past as a former speakeasy. They arrive a day prior to their furniture, a blank canvas ready to be painted with the local color Jeff hopes to infuse into his next book. In an unexpected twist of fate, the couple finds themselves plunged into a real-life whodunit when a body turns up in their bathtub, the victim an aggressively loud man named Louis Kaufman whom they had encountered earlier in a local bistro. Kaufman, whom Nancy had overheard plotting a rendezvous at their address, now lay lifeless in their home, knocked out cold by their lucky horseshoe and drowned. The plot thickens as nearly everyone they cross paths with either resides in or has ties to their building, each one a potential suspect or a cunningly laid red herring in Kaufman's murder. Amidst this eclectic mix of characters, the only innocent seems to be "Old Hickory," a free-roaming turtle and living relic from the building's speakeasy days. As the knots of this real-life mystery tighten, Jeff and Nancy morph from mere observers to amateur detectives, navigating a maze of deceit and danger. With every clue they unearth, they're not only gathering juicy material for Jeff's next book but also inching closer to unmasking a killer. With a blend of humor, suspense, and an unforgettable cast of characters, "A Night to Remember" is an enthralling tale that blurs the line between fiction and reality.
