Plot

In the shadowy halls of a private girls' school, Mary Gibson finds herself adrift when her tuition goes unpaid for six months. Her only living relative, her enigmatic older sister Jacqueline, has vanished without a trace. Compelled by a mixture of worry and curiosity, Mary abandons the school's iron gates, venturing into the pulsating heart of New York City in search of Jacqueline. Emerging from her sheltered existence, Mary is plunged into a world far removed from her own. Amidst the city's dizzying lights and echoing footsteps, she uncovers the fragments of her sister's recent past — a thriving cosmetics empire, La Sagesse, sold to Esther Redi, a cryptic business associate; a passionate romance with a lawyer named Gregory Ward, who is equally desperate to find Jacqueline; and chilling whispers of suicide, embodied by a solitary noose hanging in a vacant room Jacqueline eerily rents. As Mary navigates this labyrinth of secrets, she finds allies in unexpected places. From Irving August, the shrewd private detective, to the kindly Romari couple who own Dante's, a place Jacqueline frequently haunted, and the soulful poet, Jason Hoag, another Dante's regular, she gathers a band of unlikely heroes. However, their search leads them to the enigmatic Dr. Louis Judd, a psychiatrist who admits to treating Jacqueline but seems to be concealing more than he reveals. Through a veil of deception, Mary and her companions soon find themselves entangled in a sinister plot. Unveiling a world shrouded in darkness, they stumble upon a cult of devil worshippers. As they descend further into this occult underworld, the lines blur, and Jacqueline's role among this chilling society comes into question. Yet, as they confront this hidden realm, they must tread carefully, for these worshippers will do anything to preserve their secrecy. The Seventh Victim is a riveting exploration of the lengths one will go to uncover the truth, a haunting journey that delves into the unknown, and a stirring reminder that not everything is as it seems.
