A Girl of the Limberlost (1934)

In the heart of the Limberlost, we meet Elnora Comstock, a young girl burdened by the harsh love of her mother, Katherine Comstock, who unjustly blames her for her father's untimely death—drowned on the night of her birth. Elnora seeks solace in the warm embrace of Margaret and Westley Sinton, a neighboring couple yearning for a child, and the affluent Mrs. Parker, who recognizes the extraordinary talent within Elnora and generously aids her schooling costs. Elnora's world takes another turn when she crosses paths with Phillip Ammon, the charming nephew of Dr. Ammon, and falls head over heels in love. However, a bitter truth awaits her—Phillip is already spoken for. Amidst this emotional turmoil, Elnora's hard-earned college savings are maliciously stolen. In an unexpected twist, Katherine Comstock, while attempting to retrieve the stolen money, uncovers a dark secret about her late husband's faithlessness on the night he perished. Overwhelmed with guilt, she pleads for Elnora's forgiveness. As the mother-daughter bond begins to heal, the spark between Elnora and Phillip also ignites, promising a hopeful future.
