Plot

In the heart of Austin, Texas, we find Larry (Jason Schwartzman), a lackadaisical thirty-something who shares his cramped apartment with Arrow, an endearingly drowsy French bulldog. Larry is a character of simple pleasures - his loyalty to his dog and his fondness for liquor define the extent of his enthusiasm. He's a habitual underachiever, collecting dismissals from low-wage jobs like badges of honor, while his patient grandmother provides a financial cushion that softens each landing. Larry's world is a lazy river of indifference, where relationships are only marginally successful. His best friend, Norwood, supplements his life with a steady supply of pharmaceuticals while his grandmother remains his steadfast financial pillar - a quiet testament to a familial bond that endures despite his many failings. All this changes when Larry stumbles upon an opportunity at a local Jiffy Lube. It's here that he encounters Lupe, the captivating manager whose allure breathes life into his stagnant existence. Spurred by this unexpected crush and the stark realization that his grandmother's support may not last forever, Larry finds himself at a crossroads. He must choose between continuing his aimless drift or charting a new course towards a purposeful future. '7 Chinese Brothers' is a beguiling exploration of the human condition, illustrating that sometimes all it takes to break free from life's rut are the simple elements that we often overlook - the chance for love, the value of friendship, and the support of family. Is there hope for Larry? Viewers are left to find that out in this evocative tale of a man teetering on the edge of change.
