The Heirs (2013)

In the heart of vibrant Seoul, Cha Eun Sang and her mother, hindered by disability, endure the grind of lowly jobs, humbly supporting her older sister who's supposedly studying in America. Eun Sang dreams of the day her sister returns to Korea, financially emancipated, allowing her to trade her dishwashing gloves for the prestigious robes of a university graduate. An unexpected revelation shatters this dream: her sister is about to be wed and has no plans to return to Korea. Eun Sang's resolve hardens as she decides to chase her dreams in America herself, only to stumble into a harsh reality far grimmer than her worst fears. Her sister, far from being a university scholar, is a mere waitress, possibly entangled in some dubious activities. A heated confrontation leaves Eun Sang penniless and deserted on the foreign streets. Her despair does not go unnoticed. From the shadows emerges enigmatic Kim Tan, a fellow Korean, wrestling with his own issues yet inexplicably drawn to Eun Sang's plight. Despite his peculiar familiarity with the LAPD and his opulent, parentless home which fuels Eun Sang's suspicion of him being a drug dealer, she reluctantly accepts his help, driven by the fear of sleeping on the streets. His jest about dealing in human organs to maintain his lavish lifestyle does little to assuage her concerns. Back in Korea, a web of privileged, petulant high schoolers, the future elite of Korean society, is woven. Among them, the towering Choi Young Do, an intellectual titan with a bitter personality, who discovers that before inheriting his family's resorts, he must first deal with his equally alluring and "pleasant" step-sister, Rachel Yoo. The twist in the tale? Rachel is betrothed to his nemesis, none other than the mysterious Kim Tan.
