My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho (2010)

In the realm of Korean lore, there exists a legendary creature known as a gumiho, a fox with nine tails that can transform into a bewitching woman. This tale weaves the life of one such gumiho, Mi Ho (Shin Min Ah), who, half a millennium ago, harbored a dream to shed her supernatural existence and become human. Misunderstood and feared, she was confined in an ancient temple, her soul captured in a painting by the mystical Grandma Samshin. In the present day, the ambitious yet reckless young actor, Cha Dae-woong (Lee Seung Gi), stumbles upon this temple. Unwittingly, he liberates the gumiho, and in the ensuing chaos, suffers a near-fatal fall. Mi Ho, in her newfound freedom, saves him by sharing her "fox bead," a magical essence tied to her life force. Upon awakening, Dae-woong encounters a captivating woman, none other than Mi Ho in disguise. Initially, he dismisses her claims as eccentric ramblings, only to realize her true identity later. This revelation spurs him to seek knowledge about gumihos, but he is met with nothing but fear-mongering myths and legends. Despite the daunting circumstances, Dae-woong chooses to harbor Mi Ho, introducing her as his friend and ensuring her happiness while hiding her true identity. Their relationship blossoms amidst this shared secret. Dae-woong grows protective of Mi Ho, eventually confessing his love for her. Simultaneously, Mi Ho continues her quest to become human, aided by Park Dong Joo, a half-human, half-gumiho veterinarian who has lived for centuries. Dong Joo offers her a path to humanity: a Love Contract. This requires Mi Ho to drink his blood and a human to safeguard her fox bead within their body for 100 days, all the while remaining chaste. However, an ominous detail is left out. The human safeguarding the bead will perish at the contract's end. As Mi Ho and Dae-woong deepen their bond, they remain oblivious to the impending doom that fulfilling Mi Ho's dream could bring. In a world where love clashes with legend, this tale of a gumiho and a mortal intertwines love, sacrifice, and transformation into an enthralling tapestry.
