Love and Lies (2017)

In a not-so-distant Japan, love is rendered a luxury of the past, replaced by calculated compatibility. As citizens celebrate their sixteenth birthday, they are bestowed with a life partner, handpicked by the government. The quest for love is eradicated, supplanted by the promise of a perfectly matched companion designed to bring joy. Yukari Nejima, a fifteen-year-old boy residing in a remote part of the country, struggles to excel either in academia or athletics. Yet, concealed within him is a fervor that belies his ordinary existence. In this regimented world where love is a double-edged sword, forbidden and yearned for, what fate awaits Yukari as he teeters on the precipice of the forbidden emotion?
