I Am the Night (2019)

In the shadowy underbelly of Hollywood's golden era, "I Am the Night" weaves a chilling tale inspired by true events. The story centers on Fauna Hodel (India Eisley), a young girl shrouded in the mysteries of her birth, having been given away as an infant. Raised on the outskirts of Reno, Nevada, Fauna's life is a delicate balance between curiosity and contentment, until an earth-shattering discovery propels her into a desperate search for truth. As she delves deeper into the secrets of her past, she crosses paths with a disgraced journalist (Chris Pine), a man whose spirit is deeply scarred by the case that precipitated his downfall. This unlikely duo find themselves entwined in a perilous journey through a labyrinth of deception that draws them inexorably toward the enigmatic figure of Dr. George Hodel (Jefferson Mays). An infamous Los Angeles gynecologist, Dr. Hodel is a man whose name is whispered in connection with some of the darkest indulgences of the Hollywood elite and, chillingly, its most notorious unsolved crime. Set against the backdrop of the 1960s, "I Am the Night" drags the viewer into a swirling vortex of secrets and lies, wrapped around the infamous cold case of the Black Dahlia (Elizabeth Short) murder.
