In the quiet seclusion of a small, out-of-the-way town, 14-year-old Renton Thurston lives a modest life with his mechanic grandfather. His days are filled with dreams of joining the legendary mercenary group "Gekkostate". He yearns to ride the "Trapar" particle waves – a thrilling sport known as "Riffing" – under the guidance of the enigmatic leader, Holland. Renton's aspirations are fueled by his father's prestigious legacy and his grandfather's protective instincts. Fate intervenes when Eureka, a young girl piloting the unique "Light Finding Operation (LFO)" aircraft, the "Nirvash typeZERO", lands at his grandfather's garage seeking repairs. This unexpected visit attracts unwelcome military attention, leading to the destruction of the garage and thrusting Renton into a critical mission: delivering the revolutionary "Amita Drive" interface to the Nirvash. In the tumultuous battle that follows, the Nirvash decimates the military LFOs with a display of staggering power, paving the way for Renton's induction into Gekkostate. But the allure of his new life quickly fades as he uncovers the harsh truth behind the group's adventurous facade, plunging him into a reality far more bitter and complex than he ever anticipated.
