In the shadowy echoes of a future ravaged by the sudden onslaught of the enigmatic life forms, the Gadoll, humanity clings to survival on the edge of existential oblivion. The last vestiges of mankind now reside within the towering, 3000m-high mobile fortress known as Deca-dence; a defiant bastion against the relentless Gadoll threat. Inside this metallic leviathan, society has been cleaved into two distinct roles: the Gears, valiant warriors who bravely engage the Gadoll in daily combat, and the Tankers, those lacking the fierce skills needed for battle. Into this bleak dichotomy steps Natsume, a spirited Tanker girl who harbours an unwavering ambition to elevate herself to the revered ranks of the Gears. Her world is irrevocably altered when she crosses paths with Kaburagi, a stoic and world-weary armor repairman of Deca-dence. Seemingly polar opposites, Natsume's tenacious optimism clashes and intertwines with Kaburagi's resigned realism, setting in motion a chain of events that promises to challenge the very course of their world. However, destiny weaves a curious thread, and during a routine workday, the pair finds themselves embroiled in a fierce clash with the Gadoll. In the ensuing chaos, Natsume experiences the awe-inspiring sight of Kaburagi single-handedly vanquishing one Gadoll after another. The dynamic between these two individuals from vastly different walks of life, and the turbulence their alliance introduces, forms the pulsating heart of this darkly fascinating narrative. The unfolding drama in Deca-dence serves as a poignant reflection of humanity's indomitable spirit and resilience, even in the face of impending annihilation.
