Better Times (2004)

In the tumultuous year of 1949, young, ambitious Ida Nørregaard departs from the familiarity of Jutland to the bustling metropolis of Copenhagen, with dreams of attending a home economics school and an evening school program. However, when faced with the stark reality of choosing only one, she bravely opts for the evening school, much to her parents' dismay. Undeterred, Ida is determined to navigate the labyrinth of the big city and etch her own destiny. Securing a job as a secretary at a burgeoning radio factory, Ida encounters Erik Nielsen, the boss's son who harbours a deep affection for her, resulting in her untimely dismissal. As Erik fervently attempts to persuade his father about the impending revolution of television, he simultaneously seeks to win Ida's heart. Parallelly, Erik's vibrant sister, Søs Nielsen, finds herself trapped in an engagement with a man her heart doesn't yearn for. A terrifying attempt of violation one night is thwarted by Palle From, a humble university student from the working class and Ida's neighbour. When Søs seeks out Palle to express her gratitude, an unexpected spark kindles between them. Thus unfolds the entangled lives of Ida, Erik, Søs, and Palle in the heart of Copenhagen, a city of dreams, ambitions, and undeniable attractions.
