World Traveler (2002)

On the morning of his son's third birthday, Cal, a Manhattan architect beset by the mundane constraints of his marriage, abandons his structured life without a word to his wife. He embarks on an aimless journey in the family Volvo, severing ties with his past. His travels are punctuated by fleeting construction jobs, bouts of heavy drinking, casual encounters with women, and thoughts of the family he's left behind, though he never reaches out. Occasionally, Cal loses himself to the allure of fantasy, envisioning various endings to his nomadic voyage. However, his seemingly directionless odyssey through the West holds a veiled purpose: a destination and a set of unanswered questions. Once he finds the answers he seeks, Cal is faced with a choice—will he embrace the iconic image of the eternally wandering American man, or will he cross the boundary of his self-imposed exile to return home?
