Ulee Jackson, a Vietnam War veteran and descendent of a long line of Florida beekeepers, has withdrawn from the world following the death of his beloved wife, Penelope. Now, he pours his energy into his beekeeping business, finding the hum of his bees easier to navigate than the chaos of his family life. Living with his two granddaughters, the rebellious Casey and innocent Penny, he tries to fill the void left by their imprisoned father and his son, Jimmy, and their absent mother, Helen, who abandoned them to an unknown fate. Ulee's self-imposed isolation is shattered when Jimmy, serving time for a robbery, asks for a favor. His two dubious associates, Eddie Flowers and Ferris Dooley, have located the missing Helen, who's caught up in a dangerous web of drugs and deceit. Unbeknownst to him, he may find unexpected allies in his journey, including the local sheriff, Bill Floyd, who has been at odds with him since Jimmy's imprisonment, and the compassionate nurse Connie Hope, a newcomer to the area who rents the house across from Ulee's. In this gripping tale of resilience and redemption, Ulee must confront his past and his fears to save his family, discovering that sometimes, life's most challenging trials can lead to its greatest triumphs.
