Twilight in the Sierras (1950)

In the rugged expanse of Morongo County, nestled deep in the Sierras, the honorable Judge Amos Wiggins (Edward Keane) treads a path of justice and compassion. His sheep ranch, aided by Foy Willing and the Riders of the Purple Sage, doubles as a haven for paroled convicts seeking employment and redemption. Among these is Ricardo Chavez (Russ Vincent), an artist and engraver, who finds himself in a web of deceit and danger when his estranged sister from Cuba, Lola Chavez (Estelita Rodriguez), en route to visit him, becomes the pawn in a nefarious scheme. Against this backdrop, the shadowy figure of Matt Brunner (George Meeker) emerges. Cloaked beneath the guise of a hunting lodge operator, Brunner runs a clandestine counterfeiting ring, specializing in Gold Certificates not valid in the U.S. but of high value to his foreign contacts, led by Paul Clifford (William Lester). Kidnapped by Brunner's henchmen, Ricardo finds himself torn between loyalty and fear, as Brunner threatens to harm Lola unless Ricardo lends his engraving skills to the illicit operation. Enter State Parole Officer Roy Rogers (Roy Rogers), a man of duty and determination, who arrives in the county to find Sheriff Callahan on vacation. With only Callahan's deputy and daughter, Pat (Dale Evans), to aid him, Roy must navigate the perilous landscape of crime and deception. Brunner, sensing an opportunity, entices Roy and his companions to his lodge under the pretense of a cougar hunt—a dangerous game that soon spirals into a deadly trap. Accused of murder, Roy must evade capture, nurse his wounded horse Trigger back to health, and unravel Brunner's sinister plot, all while the melodies of "It's One Wonderful Day," "Rootin' Tootin' Cowboy," and "Pancho's Rancho" echo through the Sierra air.
