Plot

In Truly Human (2001), we are swept into a contemporary tale of an unseen entity given the unique opportunity to experience humanity in its rawest form. 'P,' a spectral figure, resides hidden within the walls of a seven-year-old Lisa's room, her imagination his only sanctuary. As fate would have it, the demolition of Lisa's home forces P to bid adieu to his fantasy refuge, propelling him into the throbbing heart of reality. Finding solace in a refugee centre, P embarks on a transformative journey of integration, swiftly picking up the Danish language and assimilating into society. Gifted an apartment and a humble job at a shoe store, P begins to taste the bitter-sweet essence of human existence. However, P's naive innocence and well-meaning nature leave him vulnerable to the harsher facets of society. Unjustly, he finds himself ensnared in a web of suspicion, accused of a heinous crime he didn't commit. Truly Human thus chronicles P's tumultuous voyage through the murky depths of societal judgement and prejudice, an allegoric Fall of Man, in his pursuit of becoming a good citizen. This is a story not just about P's struggle, but also about the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
