Plot

In the quaint town of Denmark, a young, widowed minister is temporarily assigned to a dwindling church, carrying the heavy legacy of a suspended pastor who scattered its flock. His temporary home becomes a hotel, where he meets Jørgen, a solitary man teetering on the precipice of middle age. His life intersects with that of Finn, a fiery restaurant manager and friend to Jørgen, whose turbulent temperament threatens his job. Under Finn's wing is Giulia, a captivating young Italian woman who fervently prays for a husband to grace her life. Their lives intertwine with Olympia, an endearing bakery clerk navigating the world with a persistent clumsiness and a cantankerous father. Karen, a kind-hearted hairdresser, is interlaced in this narrative, bearing the pain of her gravely ill mother. Their lives converge at the crossroads of the church, restaurant, hotel, and an Italian class at the local adult educational center. In the midst of this intricate web of connections, they grapple with loneliness, grief, and solace, while also finding themselves in a dance with romance and love - a testament to Dante's 'nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita.'
