Plot

Set against the tumultuous backdrop of World War II, Three Steps North delivers the thrilling tale of Frank Keeler, an audacious American G.I who finds fortune in the chaos. Stationed in the picturesque town of Amalfi, Italy, Frank navigates the underbelly of the war, pilfering supplies from his unit's quartermaster and trading them on the black market. His illicit dealings amass a small fortune, which he strategically buries along a secluded highway, marking a tree with his carved initials as a beacon. However, Frank's fortune comes at a price. The military police catch wind of his activities, and despite his meticulous efforts, he's captured and sentenced to four years in a military jail. Unbroken, Frank is released with one goal in mind: to return to Italy and reclaim his buried bounty. To cross the Atlantic, he secures a job on a freighter. Amidst the rolling waves, Frank gambles his way through the journey, accruing debts and promising his friend Vince swift repayment upon their arrival in Italy. The intriguing promise of hidden wealth stirs Vince's suspicion, and he tails Frank as they dock in Naples. The climax thickens as Frank reaches the location of his hidden loot, only to find it perilously close to an expansive, newly erected American military cemetery. This unexpected twist sets off a series of complications, and Frank finds himself steeped in trouble, causing the audience to wonder if he will ever retrieve his fortune, or if it is forever lost amidst the graves of the fallen.
