Plot

In the bustling heart of a grand department store, François, a humble journalist, stumbles upon an extraordinary assignment. Hand-selected by the mischievous son of the store's tyrannical owner, Rambal-Cochet, François reluctantly becomes the boy's new toy. Trapped in the intimidating shadow of the industrialist—who not only rules the store but also owns the newspaper François works for—he finds himself entangled in an unusual masquerade. As François navigates this peculiar predicament, he forms an unlikely alliance with the spirited child. Their friendship blossoms amidst the harsh reality of the boy's life, riddled with his father's unrelenting cruelty. Inspired by the lad's ambition to create a newspaper, François sees an opportunity to expose the potentate's ruthless reign. The Toy is a compelling exploration of power, friendship, and the courage to confront oppression, all wrapped in an unconventional tale of a man transformed into a child's plaything. With each twist and turn, the viewer is drawn further into the labyrinth of the store, the lives it houses, and the secrets they hold.
