Plot

As the night of ghouls and revelry descends, the eccentric palmist Arnita (Tyne Daly) reads Katharine's (Lynn Redgrave) hand, revealing an unusual fusion of her heart and head line - the rare "simian line". Adding a layer of intrigue to the Halloween gathering, Arnita prophesies that by the year's end, one of the couples in attendance will have unravelled. The subjects of the prophecy are diverse: Katharine, entwined in a complicated relationship with her much younger lover Rick (Harry Connick Jr.), her tenants Marta and Billy wrapped in their own world upstairs and the urban chic couple Sandra (Cindy Crawford) and Paul, the new additions to the neighbourhood. Arnita's prediction stirs the tranquil waters, casting ripples of doubt and mistrust amongst the couples. As they navigate their relationships, teetering on the brink of dissolution, a ray of hope emerges in the form of two benevolent spirits (William Hurt and Samantha Mathis). Their ethereal presence aims to steer the mortal conflicts away from becoming a cascade of self-fulfilling prophecies. Can the spectral duo save these earthly bonds from crumbling under the weight of a foretold future? The Simian Line is a captivating exploration of love, fate and the power of belief.
