Plot

In the heart of occupied Paris, 1942, rests the serene life of eleven-year-old Joseph, distinguished by a yellow star sewn on his chest. The bustling Butte Montmartre serves as a sanctuary for him and his Jewish friends, a cocoon of innocence against the world's harsh realities. Amongst the blend of human kindness and contempt, they navigate life, supported by the unlikely patronage of a local goods dealer and the scorn of a baker. They believe they are safe, until the unforeseen morning of July 16th, when their fleeting happiness is brutally shattered. The ominous Operation Spring Breeze, part of the Final Solution to the Jewish Question, is set in motion by the French collaborators with the unnerving acquiescence of the Police. The "Rafle du Vel' d'Hiv" or "Winter Velodrome Roundup" marks the beginning of a chilling plan to annihilate the entire Jewish population in France. Parisians, once friends and neighbors, watch as Jews, stateless citizens included, are rounded up, hustled to internment camps, and ultimately, transported to extermination camps. Joseph, one of the 4,000 children and 13,000 French Jews caught in these ruthless raids, finds his fate entwined with the compassionate Protestant nurse, Annette Monod, and the beleaguered Dr. David Sheinbaum. From the congested Vélodrome D'Hiver to the bleak confines of the camp at Beaune-La-Rolande, from the political machinations of Vichy to the chilling terrace of the Berghof, "The Round Up" breathes life into the real destinies of the victims and the executioners. Every character that graces the screen is rooted in history. Every event, no matter how extreme, recounts the true horrors of that fateful summer in 1942, casting a dark shadow over the era of mass execution.
