In the dawn of 1914, Lillie Rowe, a spirited and affluent nurse from Philadelphia, becomes infatuated with a noble cause. Inspired by a compelling lecture from Dr. Jude, she learns about a remote American medical mission in the rural recesses of the Ottoman Empire, led by the altruistic Dr. Garrett Woodruff. Irked by the rampant injustice at home, Lillie decides to personally deliver her deceased brother’s truck, loaded with medical supplies funded by her own inheritance. Upon reaching the Ottoman land, teetering on the precipice of what would soon become World War I, Lillie encounters the enigmatic Lieutenant Ismail Veli. He assists her in navigating the exotic locale, including a memorable visit to a mosque. The government insists on her being escorted by this Ottoman Lieutenant, secretly assigned to spy on local Armenians, to the mission. As she immerses herself in the hospital work, Lillie finds herself drawn into a passionate love with Lieutenant Ismail, stirring a whirlwind of emotions, while Dr. Jude silently nurses an unrequited love. The mission, nestled in the heart of the Ottoman Empire, finds itself perilously close to the advancing Russian forces. Amidst the escalating tensions of the impending war, and with the enemy at their doorstep, Lillie’s loyalties are tested. Torn between her commitment to the mission, her affection for Jude, and her love for Ismail, she must make a choice. She stands at a crossroads where she can succumb to the expectations of others or forge her own path, in a world on the brink of an all-out war.
