Christine (Michele Laroque), a determined project manager, is all about business, thriving in the cutthroat world of land development. She has meticulously planned her life, purchasing two adjoining units in a condo with the intent of converting the upper unit into a home for her and her equally ambitious fiancé. But her plans hit a roadblock in the form of the obstinate tenant, Jeff (Matthew Modine), who refuses to vacate.
Jeff, a struggling architect and amateur artist, is wrestling with his own demons; his refusal to compromise on his designs has put his small firm in financial jeopardy. However, his personal life takes a hit when he learns that his ex-wife is marrying his best friend. His world begins to spiral, and the noise and chaos he inadvertently causes becomes a constant thorn in Christine's side, further straining her relationship and her high-profile work responsibilities.
When Jeff finds himself dateless for his ex-wife's wedding due to a fib about his own impending nuptials, he strikes an unlikely deal with Christine. She agrees to pose as his faux fiancée for the evening, in exchange for his promise to surrender the apartment.
