The Manitou (1978)

In the heart of San Francisco, Karen Tandy finds herself at the mercy of an inexplicable medical anomaly – a mysterious tumor growing in her neck. Doctors are baffled when they discover that the tumor appears to harbor a living entity, akin to a fetus germinating within its confines. Amidst the medical chaos, Harry Erskine, a local fortune teller, dismisses the oddity until startling events start to unfold around him. The eerie death of a client who starts speaking in an unknown tongue, followed by Karen's surgeon's terrifying attempt to mutilate his own hand rather than remove the tumor, compel Erskine to reconsider. As Karen's tumor continues to grow, Erskine seeks help from another clairvoyant, Amelia Crusoe, and her husband, in a desperate attempt to understand the root of these paranormal happenings. Dr. Snow, observing the escalating events, conjectures that the tumor might be housing an aggrieved 400-year-old Native American spirit seeking revenge. In a race against time, Erskine ventures to South Dakota, seeking the aid of Native American healer, John Singing Rock. His mission: to exorcise the malignant spirit from Karen's body and return it to its rightful place. Yet, as the spirit is expelled from Karen's tumor, the question remains – will they be able to prevent it from possessing others before Singing Rock can banish it back to where it belongs?
