Plot

In a twist of cosmic irony, George McWhirter Fotheringay, a fervent disbeliever in miracles, discovers he possesses the astonishing ability to perform them. Cast out from a local pub amidst accusations of trickery, Fotheringay begins an exploration of his newfound powers, accidentally dispatching a law enforcement officer to Hades in the process. Alarmed, he redirects the officer to San Francisco and turns to the community's spiritual guide, Mr Maydig, for counsel. Upon witnessing Fotheringay's miraculous capabilities, Maydig is galvanized by the potential for global reformation through divine intervention. Their grand schemes, however, are derailed when Fotheringay bungles a miracle through ill-chosen words, causing disastrous consequences. Confronted by the unintended havoc he's wrought, he chooses to forfeit his extraordinary ability, rewinding time to the point before he became a reluctant miracle worker.
