Plot

Set against the austere backdrop of the late 19th century, the film "The Mad Whale" plunges into the dark, complex world of a psychiatric clinic. Dr. Benjamin Calhoun, a dedicated physician, finds himself increasingly disillusioned by the impotence of conventional treatments. The chilling ice therapy, the grotesque employment of leeches, and the cold solitude of isolation fail to alleviate the afflictions of his patients. In a bold and desperate move, Dr. Calhoun embarks on a unique experiment, harnessing the transformative power of the arts. He decides to stage an adaptation of the epic saga "Moby Dick" within the confines of the women's ward, pouring his hopes into this unconventional treatment. Among his thespian patients stands Isabelle Wallace, the seemingly sane wife of a high-ranking official. Her presence in the institution, she insists, is not due to madness but the machinations of her husband. As the plot unfurls, the divide between sanity and madness blurs, challenging the audience to question the true nature of insanity in this evocative tale.
