The Loved Ones (2009)

In the harsh glare of an otherwise ordinary day, high school senior Brent Mitchell finds his world unraveling in the wake of a devastating tragedy. Struggling to steer clear of a gory figure on the road, he inadvertently crashes his car against a tree, causing his father's abrupt demise. This catastrophe fractures his family, leaving Brent burdened with crippling guilt and his mother plunged into a pit of emotional turmoil. In an attempt to escape this painful reality, Brent finds solace in a haze of marijuana and the strident chords of metal music, hoping to drown out the guilt gnawing at his soul. Amidst the storm of his life, a ray of hope emerges in the form of his girlfriend, Holly. She's a beautiful, grounded girl, radiating kindness and love, and a dream date for the upcoming high school prom. However, Brent's anticipation for an evening of innocent revelry is shattered when he finds himself ensnared in a horrifying series of events. Unbeknownst to him, an unsettling obsession has been brewing in the shadows, leading to an untimely abduction that catapults him into a nightmarish prom night. Under the hypnotic twirl of a mirrored disco ball, Brent is trapped in a sadistic spectacle, immersed in a grotesque tableau of pink satin, glitter, syringes, nails, and power drills. An unwitting prom king in a chillingly perverse ceremony, Brent becomes the centerpiece of a macabre entertainment orchestrated by a secret admirer and her complicit father. As the night unfolds, Brent must summon all his strength and courage to escape this horrific reality, or risk being forever ensnared in the grip of his twisted admirer. Will he manage to break free, or will his life become a perpetual dance of dread under the disco ball?
