Plot

In the golden years of her affluent life, the formidable Harriet Lauler – a retired advertising tycoon known for her irascible temperament and unyielding control – is on a mission to orchestrate her legacy. Insisting on leaving no detail to chance, Harriet decides it's time to commission her own obituary, desiring a eulogy that mirrors her high standing and indomitable spirit. In her relentless quest for perfection, she enlists the services of Anne Sherman, a local newspaper journalist. Anne is initially reluctant, knowing all too well that satisfying Harriet's high expectations is a daunting task. However, Harriet's deep pockets and the lure of a unique assignment prompt her to accept the challenge. As Anne embarks on the journey to document Harriet's remarkable life, she finds herself clashing with Harriet's iron-fisted desire to dictate the narrative. The young journalist, valuing truth over flattery, refuses to merely echo Harriet's script. Instead, she commits to unveiling the unvarnished reality of Harriet's life, an endeavor that leads to unexpected revelations and a transformative friendship. Caught between her past's stubborn shadows and Anne's pursuit of the truth, Harriet must confront the question: how can she shape her legacy when her controlling nature has pushed so many away? The answer lies ahead, waiting to be discovered in a tale that intertwines ambition, truth, and the power of an unlikely friendship. After all, Harriet Lauler always knows better – or so she believes.
